Ode to Coffee

I've done something I never thought I'd do in a million years.

I've stopped drinking coffee.

It's been over a week, and while I miss it, I'm not aching to go back. See, the aching was the problem. I'd gotten to the point that the first sip of coffee in morning caused intense stomach pains. The more I drank, the worse it was. But it didn't matter how little I drank, either. The pain was there and it was persistent.

Green tea. It works. It's hot and it has caffeine. It doesn't hurt my stomach. It's supposed to be good for you. What more could I ask?

I'm a coffee snob, too. Peet's coffee only, that's me. We even take it with us when go on vacation. You can drink your Maxwell House if you want, but if we're visiting you, we'll get up early and make our Peet's and wash the pot so it's ready for you. We'll even share our Peet's with you, but most people can't handle the fresh, powerful taste of real coffee and most of our hosts decline the offer.

I guess now I'll bring along my green tea. But I will always miss Peet's.
